Barcelona to Host Gay Film Festival

BARCELONA, Spain — The Barcelona International Festival of Gay Erotic Cinema, or Heatgay 2006, is set to kick off at la Farga de L’Hospitalet on Oct. 4-8. The festival functions as both a trade show for adult industry professionals, and as a celebration of gay cinema for fans.

“[Heatgay] is a festival of sensuality and eroticism where you can dance, buy, perform and, above all, where you will find out about new products, services and technologies related to gay sex,” according to Heatgay’s website. “Most importantly, you can see and meet your favorite porn stars.”

Show organizers are expecting many well-known male porn stars to attend the festival, including Rafa Carreras, Martin Mazza, Mr. Bear International Pedro Veral and Brent Corrigan. COLT Studio Group also plans to make an appearance, with director Kristofer Weston and the COLT Men in tow. Also appearing on behalf of Bel Ami is Johan Paulik, Lukas Ridgeston and Sebastian Bonnet.

Heatgay 2006 will feature a roundtable discussion titled “Cinema and Transsexuals,” moderated by the Association of Transsexuals and Intersexuals in Cataloni. A literary seminar follows the panel, and will present three books: “Los Amigos de Sebastian,” “El Kama Sutra Gay” and the comic book “Fallen Angels.”

Additional points of interest include a gay fashion show and beauty contest to elect Mr. Catalan Nation and Mr. Heatgay 2006, with the latter winner serving as the festival’s official image until the 2007 show.

For the film festival portion on the main stage, Canadian director Bruce LaBruce will be celebrated in a career retrospective featuring his films and photos.

On Oct. 8, the last night of the festival, attendees and industry insiders will party at Pacha Barcelona, a popular nightclub. Show organizers expect many of the performers and directors to attend the party dubbed PornoXstars.

The president of this year’s Heatgay festival is actress Cayetana Guillén Cuervo, and journalist and film director Carlos Resa serves as show director.

According to show organizers, last year’s festival attracted more than 57,000 visitors, 120 exhibitors and thousands of members of the press.
