The Web Awards are “kind of a dialog between us and our peers in the industry,” Cybersocket President Morgan Sommer told XBiz. “With the Industry Choice category, we [Cybersocket staff] are able to nominate sites and companies that we think represent the best, then we look to our peers to decide who are the best of the best.”
The awards cover the entire spectrum of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals and companies for being technological entrepreneurs, agents of free expression and cultural change, and innovators in queer media and entertainment.
Websites will be recognized for achievements in 31 different Surfer categories and 21 different Industry categories. Voting for the Industry Choice awards are open to all industry professionals.
Voting closes Dec. 12 at 9 a.m. PST, and Sommer said multiple safeguards are in place to prevent ballot stuffing. Most significantly, a third-party company will have exclusive access to the voting database until voting is closed. Votes will be tallied as they are submitted and the winners in each category will be announced at the awards ceremony and presented with trophies.
Chi Chi LaRue will emcee the award ceremony, which will be held at Gipsy Nightclub in Las Vegas as part of the Gay Webmaster Parties.
