May was first declared National Masturbation Month in 1995 by San Francisco sex shop Good Vibrations, and GameLink.com created the Pornstar Masturbation Marathon series to help raise the profile of this educational campaign.

GameLink.com also is sponsoring the San Francisco's Center for Sex and Culture's 2008 Masturbate-a-thon event in San Francisco on May 25. Nina Hartley will co-host the live masturbation event but will not participate herself.
