Teravision Launches Navarro’s ‘Broken’ at Bordello

LOS ANGELES — Thursday night, adult production company Teravision celebrated the release of the first title in their Celebrity line.

Directed by rocker Dave Navarro, “Broken” features starlet Sasha Grey and a top-notch cast of performers including Jenna Haze, Victoria Sin, Audrey Bitoni, Kayla Page, Lisa Daniels, Tommy Gunn, Marco Banderas, Mark Davis and Spyder Jonez.

The event was held at a hideaway location in downtown Los Angeles, at a bar called Bordello, which according to Teravision President Evan Seinfeld, was at one time a house of ill repute.

“It resembles a whorehouse, like from the 30s. It’s beautiful and it’s very, very red. I knew when it was time to celebrate the release of ‘Broken,’ we had to do it in a red environment,” Navarro told XBIZ in an exclusive interview that will be aired on XFANZ.com. Navarro had personally chosen the location for the party.

With female bartenders dressed in lingerie and serving event sponsor XXX Tequila to party guests, Navarro sat on a plush velvet couch in the club’s VIP area and talked about porn and music.

“After doing this and now just stepping into these other areas, being behind the camera is something I’m starting to love. I’d like to get into music video direction; the sky is wide open in terms of what it could be,” Navarro said of completing on the ‘Broken’ project. “I feel like this was the perfect stepping stone for me because I had a cast of actors and a crew that walked me through it, so without them, that couldn’t have been done.”

The rocker-turned-author/artist/filmmaker noted that Teravision executive producer Sancho helped him plan out every step of the way while filming ‘Broken’ and also cited the work of director/cameraman Ethan Kane and director/editor Axel Braun.

Navarro praised the acting ability of the movie’s lead actress Sasha Grey, saying that he could see her in serious, mainstream roles “not just in campy, ex-porn star roles that we’ve seen in the past, but as an actress. She really has an amazing range.”

His Internet talk show, Spread TV has recently been nominated Best Online TV Talk Show by TV Guide, and he and business partner Todd also are working on a documentary — but Navarro says his next big effort will go into a new music project.

“I absolutely need to. The next project that I’m going to throw myself into has to be a new record,” he said. “It will probably be a solo record. You know, given the state of the music business right now, it’s so fucked up that they’re just looking for a three-and-a-half minute single and they’re going to throw all the money behind that, so I’m going to bypass any of that label bullshit that’s going on right now and make a record that I really love. And make it be a close, Internet-based release.”

Seinfeld, who performs in the film under his nom de porn Spyder Jonez, told XBIZ that he has known Navarro for more than 10 years and knew that, as a creative artist, that he would bring his talent to “Broken.”

“Sales are unbelievable so far and we tried our best to let people know what it was without sensationalizing it. We didn’t want people to think that it’s Dave in a sex movie. It’s a dark, artistic look at porn. I love it. This movie is going to sell because of the planning and the art direction, in terms of the details,” Seinfeld said.

“I think it’s about sexuality and sensuality. This movie is about dominance and submission. There’s something about it that’s still taboo and that’s what makes it really sexy,” he added.

Grey, who just returned from the Barcelona International Erotic Film Festival, told XBIZ that she has been too busy to gauge the reaction of the fans to her work in the movie.

“I’m interested in what people have to say — that’s what I’m waiting for, to see how they respond to it and how I perform in the movie. Not just as a sex worker, but as an actor,” Grey said. “I dedicated so much time to it, unlike most projects.”

Living the whirlwind life of adult’s most extreme crown princess, Grey talked about indulging her love of watersports live onstage in Barcelona, and of her upcoming trip/mini-vacation to Berlin for the Venus tradeshow next week.

Partygoers were rocked by a band called Roc, and could watch themselves dance in elaborately etched mirrors hung behind the club’s long, dark wood bar.

Also seen in the crowd: Marco Banderas and his wife Lisa — both of whom got their start in the adult industry performing in live sex shows in Barcelona, and were just returned from the Nightmoves show in Tampa.

Performer Victoria Sin caused a sensation in her red/leopard print dress, accompanied by the mysterious Lucy Suicide; they attracted a lot of attention by making out at the bar.

Teravision’s Sancho and Pulse Distribution’s David Peskin were part of the company crew.

Other adult industry personalities on the scene included Ava Rose, Taylor Wayne, Ashlynn Brooke, Kayla Page and her mom, Mya Luanna, Velvet Rose, Lucious Lopez, Lisa Daniels, Maya Hills, Kylee King, newbie Lighthouse performer Leigh Livingston, Axel Braun, Tommy Gunn, Tee Reel, Starla Sterling, Tony Batman, and K.J. “Married With Children” mainstream actor David Faustino also made an appearance.

Last to arrive at the party was Mercenary Pictures founder Lexington Steele, with his friend Drea.

Outside Bordello, director Ethan Kane joked that there is only a little bit of difference between he and Steele — claiming that he is actually 12 inches, compared to Steele’s mere 11 inches.

“It’s the greatest show on girth,” said Kane.
