City Sues to Block EXXXOTICA

SECAUCUS, N.J. — The town of Secaucus has filed suit in state Superior Court to stop EXXXOTICA New York from taking place at the Meadowlands Exposition Center this weekend.

The three-day consumer event features seminars about topics including sex, pole dancing and operating adult businesses. There also are stage performances and an exhibition floor.

Victory Tradeshow Management, which operates the show, made a statement that said:

"We were notified that the owners and/or representatives of the Meadowlands Expo Center have been given notice of an intended hearing. Local officials are opposing the event and are seeking legal avenues in a last-minute attempt to block the show. Our attorneys are in contact with the parties involved to make sure that EXXXOTICA New York complies with all applicable state and local laws, and any and all measures are being taken to make sure that the event takes place as scheduled. This consumer show is only accessible by those 18 years of age and older, and all exhibits are only visible on the convention floor."

Town officials have said that the event violates a state law which prohibits certain sexual activities in establishments with a liquor license, and that the convention hall is too close to a preschool facility.
