The Kenya Film Censorship Board recently issued a two week notice to video and cinema operators who have not complied with the Films and Stage Act Cap 222, which requires all films to be approved by the censorship board before release.

In threatening to crack down on pornographic contraband, the government also said that those involved in the sale, hire, exhibition and trafficking of pornographic materials in the country will be prosecuted.

The public also is being discouraged from viewing adult fare, and asked to report any incidents that involves the above activities to either the police or directly to the censorship board.

The government furthermore has stated that it intends to conduct regular "spot checks" of establishments believed to be selling unauthorized adult content, and justifies its actions because of what it says has been a mushrooming of unlicensed video halls in recent years, many of which show adult movies.

The government also is concerned about the increase in sex tourism, especially in the southern part of the country.
