ASACP Day Proclaimed in San Diego

SAN DIEGO — The City of San Diego has proclaimed Monday, Aug. 18, as Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection Day. San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders issued the proclamation honoring ASACP and its RTA “Restricted To Adults” website label.

The proclamation was issued in conjunction with ASACP being honored as the overall winner of the 2008 "Associations Make a Better World" awards, an international awards competition sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and the Center for Association Leadership of Washington, D.C. ASACP CEO Joan Irvine will receive the award during the ASAE and the Center for Association Leadership’s 2008 Annual Meeting and Exposition on Aug. 19 at the San Diego Convention Center.

The "Associations Make a Better World" awards recognize associations that engage in compelling programs and activities that benefit communities in the U.S. and internationally. ASACP received the overall award in the U.S./Developed Nations category for its RTA “Restricted To Adults” website label, which was launched in November 2006 and now has nearly 5 million link-ins online and two billion hits to RTA-labeled pages daily.

"It is a tremendous honor for ASACP to be recognized by ASAE and we are very grateful to Mayor Sanders and the City of San Diego for proclaiming ASACP Day," Irvine said. "ASACP may be located in Southern California, but thanks to our supporters and sponsors the work we do has an international impact which is vital to truly protecting children online. Protecting children requires us all working together."

Founded in 1996, the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating child pornography from the Internet. ASACP also works to help parents prevent children from viewing age-inappropriate material online.
