Bijou Spotlights ‘80s Star Michael Christopher

CHICAGO — The Bijou Theatre has announced that it will feature ‘80s adult star Michael Christopher in its August Spotlight Series. The performer appeared in more than 30 titles over five years for various studios including NOVA Productions, Catalina, Buckshot, HIS Video and Bijou Video.

One of Christopher’s best-known performances was in “L.A. Tool and Die,” directed by Joe Gage in 1979. Part of the director’s famous “road” trilogy, the films featured models having sex in road trip locations and included 1976’s “El Paso Trucking Company” and “El Paso Wrecking Corp” in 1977.

Staring Aug. 11, the theater will start the Christopher retrospective with HIS Video’s “Pleasure Beach” filmed in 1983. On Aug. 12, “Juice” produced by Massive Studios in 1985 and, finally on Aug. 13, Bijou Video’s “A Few Good Men.”

Prior to each screening, a short presentation about Christopher’s work will be given. Shows are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. CST.

Package tickets for all three nights of the series are available through the Bijou ticket office for $20 and may be purchased in advance or on the night of the show. Attendees also are welcome to stay for additional screenings that take place on those days.

Owned by Steve Touschin, the Bijou Theater is part of Bijou World, which also houses a retail storefront and sex club at the same location. Bijou Video, also operated by Touschin, is the one of the largest distributor of gay adult videos in the Midwest.

Opened in 1969, at 1349 N. Wells St. in Chicago, Bijou World is the longest-running operation of its kind in the country.
