Evil Angel’s ‘Defend Our Porn’ Shipping

VAN NUYS, Calif. — Adult production company Evil Angel is shipping “Defend Our Porn,” today. A compilation of scenes from each of the company’s powerhouse lineup of directors, proceeds from sales will go to benefit the legal defense fund for Evil Angel owner John Stagliano and Evil Angel, who were brought up on federal obscenity charges in the beginning of April.

The three-disc set contains more than 10 hours of previously released, specially selected scenes, and one original scene featuring the return performance of Tricia Devereaux, aka Karen Stagliano, as she plays submissive to performer Derrick Pierce. Devereaux did the scene after a nine-year hiatus, in support of her husband John Stagliano and the company.

Former Evil Angel director Jules Jordan also added to the compilation, with a scene featuring himself and Evil Angel director/performer Belladonna from “Ass Worship.”

“I believe that this DVD is a strong but level-headed approach to showing that we're not ashamed of what we do, and that we believe that there is nothing wrong with the content of our movies on a moral level,” Evil Angel’s Karen Stagliano told XBIZ.

The content in the DVD set is classic Evil Angel fare, including scenes from “Cock Happy,” “Cheek Freaks 2,” “Own My Ass” and “Fashionistas Safado: Berlin,” among others. The comp features many of the company’s most popular performers — Belladonna, Manuel Ferrara, Rocco Siffredi, Nacho Vidal, Sasha Grey, Melissa Lauren and Jazz Duro, to name a few.

“Every girl in this movie is a sexually confident adult who chose to be in the porn business for her own personal reasons. Nothing illegal happens in the scenes, no one was harmed, and everything was consensual,” Karen said.

According to Karen, she and her husband are bracing themselves for a long legal battle, and John has said publicly that he is willing to see the trial through to its end, in order to make a stand for the rights of adult industry producers.

“I'm really proud of how strong John has been over the last two months. It's going to be a long-term battle, and we're not even expecting the next motion hearings until August and November,” Karen said. “Even more important than the proceeds that will come from this DVD will be the emotional support that John will feel from the directors, the industry and his fans.”

DefendOurPorn.org also has been formed, in order to document the legal proceedings, as well as receive comments from users. At the recent Exxxotica consumer show held in Miami, Karen said that she received feedback from the public.

“Lots of people came up to me to say that they thought the situation was just ridiculous,” she said. “We have a MySpace too, and we've been getting as many comments on the MySpace page as we have on DefendOurPorn.org.”

Sentiment expressed to her by the public echoes concerns among industry members, especially in light of recent legal developments in the Max Hardcore, Ira Isaacs and Ray Guhn cases. Evil Angel, which is considered by many to be a trendsetter in terms of its content, produces material not outside the norm for most studios.

“I've heard a lot of shock from people that a company that they feel is so popular has been prosecuted,” Karen said. “People seem to be thinking that if Evil Angel can get prosecuted, there are probably a whole lot of companies that aren't immune. We didn't put anything in those movies that isn't identical to the content of a lot of movies that are being sold by a wide range of companies.”

In a formal statement, John added, “Evil Angel was singled out for this prosecution because the government is making an assault on more mainstream pornography, and not just the extreme fringe. I am honored to be called upon to defend our industry in this fight and I appreciate this support.”

The titles named in the obscenity charges include “Milk Nymphos,” “Storm Squirters 2” and a trailer of “Belladonna: Fetish Fanatic 5.”

A movie trailer including a full flash version will be available at evilangel.com.

“Defend Our Porn” started shipping nationwide today and will be available in stores and online on July 3, in time for Independence Day. For sales information, contact Sandee or Jessica at (800) 442-6435.

There will also be copies for sale at the Bondage Ball at the Henry Fonda Theatre, in Hollywood, Calif., on the night of July 4.
