Copper Digital Acquires Red One Camera

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Adult industry editing and DVD authoring services provider Copper Digital has taken delivery of a Red One Digital Cinema camera, and is planning to offer it for rental.

Copper Digital representative Chris Colby told XBIZ that the camera has been used by mainstream directors Peter Jackson and Steven Soderburgh for short experimental films, and it can deliver 35mm-quality images.

"We've been following the development of the Red camera since 2006, eventually placing a deposit on one and waiting patiently to take delivery," Colby said. "The Red represents a revolutionary step in digital filmmaking. It can capture images at 4k resolution, six times of that of a standard 1080p HD image. In addition, the camera can also shoot at up to 120 frames per second for extremely detailed slow motion shots.

"Think of the Red One as a Nikon or Canon DSLR camera that shoots motion instead of stills."

Will Rider, director of "Not the Bradys XXX" and "Not Bewitched XXX," is excited about the possibilities of using the camera for upcoming movies.

"I was blown away the first time I saw footage shot on Red. It's like a box cover that moves," Rider said. "In fact, because of the resolution it records at, any image from the movie can be used as a box cover."

The Red One camera is booked through the beginning of May on an independent film but will be available for rent shortly thereafter.

"We can offer on-set support and knowledge of the adult industry and its budget limitations which can't be found at a typical Hollywood rental house," Colby said. "Naturally our existing DVD authoring and editing clients will receive preferential rates and scheduling but we look forward to working with new clients who want to explore this exciting leap in technology."
