FSC to Premier Anti-Piracy 101 at Phoenix Forum

TEMPE, Ariz. — The Free Speech Coalition (FSC) today announced its speaker lineup and topic agenda for Anti-Piracy 101, an educational session to take place at the Phoenix Forum that is designed to help adult businesses coordinate their anti-piracy efforts.

Anti-Piracy 101 will take place Friday, March 28, in the Abbey at the Mission Palms hotel in Tempe, Ariz., the host venue for the Phoenix Forum. The session will run 12:30 p.m.- 2 p.m.

“We have an impressive lineup of experts in the field who will move participants through some of the most basic steps to protecting their content,” said Diane Duke, FSC’s executive director. “Participants choose the segment that interests them most, and walk away with information they can begin to utilize use in their own business the following Monday.”

According to the FSC, anti-piracy 101’s “coursework” is designed to “give businesses, especially small businesses that don’t have an attorney specifically devoted to copyright issues, an opportunity to understand piracy issues and to take initial steps toward protecting their content and trademark.”

Topics will include:

  • Copyright 101 — Participants walk away with the tools they need to copyright their materials
  • Tracking Pirated Assets — Participants receive a how-to on tracking their own pirated materials as well as tips to help protect materials from being pirated.
  • Cease-and-Desist Letters and Takedown Notices — Participants receive a template of a cease-and- desist letter and takedown notice, as well as information on the appropriate submission of cease–and-desist letters and takedown notices.
  • Building a Case — Participants will hear experts explain the necessary processes for gathering evidence to support legal action against infringers and provide information on what to expect, cost, time involved, potential for success, coordinating class-action lawsuits, etc.

Speakers for the event include Greg Piccionelli Esq., an attorney with the law firm of Piccionelli & Sarno; Jason Tucker, President, Falcon Foto and founding member of the PAK Group; Adam Lucas, Manager, Compliance & Digital Video for SpecPub, Inc.; and Kevin Song, President, Ark Home Entertainment.

“This is the first stage of the anti-piracy plan developed by the partnering of FSC and GAPA [the Global Anti-Piracy Agency founded and sponsored by Sureflix],” said Caryn Goldberg, GAPA’s interim executive director and FSC consultant. “FSC and GAPA have come together to do this important work and we are coordinating our efforts with the anti-piracy producers’ group, PAK Group, to make this an industry-wide effort.”
