Ron Jeremy Blasts Tube Sites, Sex Tape Celebrities

CYBERSPACE — Adult industry icon Ron Jeremy returned this week from a tour of the U.K., where he spoke to online music and culture publication ContactMusic.com.

In his interview, Jeremy blasted tube sites like YouPorn and PornoTube for infringing on copyrighted material by posting entire adult titles with permission from the video’s producers.

"What harms the industry is the Internet,” Jeremy told Contact Music. “Before it was helpful. Every company had its own website. Now you have things like YouPorn and PornTube that show full-length features of Vivid's movies.

“Who the fuck do they think they are? You wouldn't see YouTube play a full-length feature of a Steven Spielberg film,” Jeremy added. “But they think that it's just porn so they can get away with it. So, now Vivid is striking back. Piracy is piracy, whether the film is PG, R or X. We deserve the same respect."

Jeremy also criticized sex tape celebrities for pretending to be shocked when the tapes are released when, in fact, he said that the celebrities arrange to have the videos leaked and then take advantage of the publicity.

He has no problem with the tapes themselves, which he explained have created a lucrative niche for the adult industry.

"Paris Hilton's sex tape's very good, by the way,” he told reporters. “It helps [the industry]. It helps it a lot. It gives it a real boost.

But then, Jeremy added, “I love the excuse they use; 'Oh, I don't know how they got a hold of it.' It's such a big joke now. Any celebrity that's not doing so good, they [get a] jump by having a good sex scandal." Jeremy also went on to tell Contact Music that, if he had a daughter, he would support her decision to become an adult performer. However, he added that unless the girl has the business savvy to manage a career of Jenna Jameson-like proportion, he would prefer to see his daughter pursue an education.

"There's a double standard that exists in society. It's a lot easier for a guy to do it than a girl to do it. And that's why the girls get paid so much more," Jeremy explained. "But not a lot of girls in porn have had a college education. So a lot of them have worked [in porn] to make their money, hundreds of thousands of dollars, whereas if you were working at McDonald’s, that's how many fries you'd earn.

"But my daughter would probably have a college education, so I imagine she'd be chasing careers involving the mind, " he said. "But if she really wanted to do it age 18, I'm not going to stop her. I would just hope she'd do it wisely like Jenna did — only with a select few guys, make the big, big bucks. Jenna socked like $17 million. So I'd hope that my daughter would be at least as creative and smart as possible. I don't think she would do it. I don't think it would be her thing."
