FSC Joins With GAPA For Educational Initiative to Fight Piracy

CANOGA PARK, Calif. — The Free Speech Coalition announced that it is joining forces with the Global Anti-Piracy Agency (GAPA) to create a long-term strategy to fight content piracy through education, collective action and lobbying. GAPA was founded last year with support from Sureflix Digital Distribution, parent company of Maleflixxx.tv and other VOD, IPTV and mobile brands.

“Piracy is too important an issue for us to waste time reinventing the wheel,” said Caryn Goldberg, GAPA’s past executive director. “We need substantive solutions that will help the industry — it just makes sense for us to pool our resources.”

Sureflix has donated $25,000 to support a series of antipiracy seminars produced by XXX University, FSC’s new educational program.

XXX University’s “Anti-Piracy 101: Covering Your Assets” is designed to give adult businesses — especially small businesses that do not have attorneys devoted to piracy issues — an opportunity to understand piracy, to learn how to protect their content, and to learn practical steps for taking action when piracy occurs.

Workshops in the series include:

Filing Copyrights: Participants learn how to obtain the most basic protection content owners must have and get forms and procedures for do-it-yourself action.

Tracking Pirated Content: Participants go inside the world of file-sharing sites to learn how to track pirated content and receive tips on protecting content from being pirated in the first place.

Cease-and-Desist Letters and Takedown Notices: Participants find out how, when and to whom to send these notices, and get templates and procedures for both types of documents.

Suing the Bastards: Participants learn how to gather evidence they can use when taking legal action against pirates. Attorneys and content owners with experience in the litigation process will discuss the costs in time and money, the potential for success, and how to coordinate class-action suits.

The XXX University educational program is scheduled to be part of three adult industry gatherings this year: the Phoenix Forum in Tempe, Ariz., in March; the XBIZ Summer Forum in Las Vegas in July; and Internext Expo in Hollywood, Fla.. In August.

FSC Executive Director Diane Duke said, “Sureflix has put their money where their mouth is, and not just to help their company, but to help the whole industry through this coordinated initiative. They have encouraged other businesses to step up as well. Thank you, Sureflix.”
