Ron Jeremy Appearance at Fundraiser Causes Controversy
Reporter Jeff Peterson covered the story for local TV station WGME.
“I don’t think we, as a bar, set out to embarrass the town,” said Mixers owner Mike Yeough.
Jeremy was invited to the bar as part of a series of reality TV star appearances. The event has a pajama party theme.
“It’s a pajama party, not a lingerie party,” Yeough said. “We’re not shooting movies — it’s a meet-and-greet.”
The party is also a fundraiser for a 9-month old girl undergoing cancer treatments.
Yeough said that he feels that the financial burden of medical treatments is something the parents should not have to bear, and sympathizes with the young girl’s plight because his own son also was a cancer patient.
He said the show would go on, whether or not the townspeople approve of his decision to invite Jeremy.
“Our thoughts were pure,” said Yeough. “It’s for a good cause and we’re not going to stop.”
So far, the bar has received 67 calls about the event, but according to Yeough, only two of them have been negative.
