Digital Playground Releases 8 Titles on Blu-ray
Following Digital Playground’s blockbuster title “Pirates,” the selected titles represent the first videos released on Blu-ray.
“Pirates” was released on Blu-ray format on Jan. 4, and will hit the stores on January 11.
The company said that it has stepped up its schedule for releasing movies on Blu-ray due to increased consumer demand, with increasing popularity of Blu-ray players and Play Station 3 gaming consoles that allow users to access content in the hi-definition format.
The eight selected movies will be available in February.
Those titles include “Island Fever 4,” “Babysitters,” “Island Fever 3,” “Jack’s Teen America 3,” “Jess Jane: Sexual Freak,” “Hush,” “Contract Star” and “Jesse Jane in Pink.”
The Blu-ray format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video as well as storing large amounts of data.
Generally thought of as a trendsetter in entertainment technology, the adult industry has been slow in adopting the Blu-ray format, largely because of developer Sony’s reluctance to allow replication of adult content on Blu-ray disc at licensed facilities.
Mainstream movie and television studio Warner Bros. announced last week that it was gong to release its high-definition DVDs exclusively in Blu-ray starting later this year, joining 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney Pictures, Sony and MGM, which are all releasing discs in the Blu-ray format only. Warner Bros. had been the only mainstream studio releasing discs in both the Blu-ray and HD DVD formats.
