Todd Moeller admitted to helping send more than 1.2 million AOL customers spam emails advertising a fake computer security program, after he was caught making the deal with an undercover government informant.

According to prosecutors, between April 2005 and August 2006, Moeller and his partner Adam Vitale corresponded via instant messaging with a confidential informant of the Secret Service, and detailed their spamming operation to him.

They agreed to split 50 percent of the profits, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Manhattan, after the two men told the informant that they had the ability to work around AOL spam filters and not be traced.

Reuters reported that Moeller told the informant in an instant message that he had made a monthly $40,000 from past spam scams.

Moeller and Vitale reportedly advertised several products, including penis enlargement pills, in their past spam campaigns.
