Mayor Alfredo Lim torched almost $900 worth of pirated DVDs and several second-hand replication machines found in a motel room in Quiapo, a district of Manila, which reportedly is a notorious source for cheap, pirated DVDs.
"We will show everyone that we will destroy these materials so that it will serve as a lesson to stop violating the law," Lim said.
Basare Macadantay, the alleged operator, was charged with producing and selling pornographic material and engaging in business without a permit. Copyright infringement was not on his list of violations.
Police believe Macadantay supplied the fake adult DVDs to vendors in surrounding cities.
After receiving a tip, officer Amador Jareno approached Macadantay, posed as a prospective buyer, and asked him for five copies of the "Anal Princess Diaries" DVD. When the Macadantay accepted payment, he was arrested.
It is unknown how many replicated DVDs Macadantay produced, but his replication machines reportedly could stamp 360 copies in an hour, or 8,640 a day.
