According to DP spokesperson Adella O'Neil, "Island Fever 3," the company's first DVD delivered in HD in a double disc set, was released in September 2004, three months after the June release of "1 Night in Paris" by distributor Red Light District.
"Island Fever 3" was shot in Tahiti and stars Tera Patrick, Jesse Jane and Devon. The film was directed by Joone. The first two installments were shot in Hawaii.
According to Red Light, "1 Night in Paris" already had 300,000 pre-orders for the DVD before its official release date. The video also trumped demand for “Pam and Tommy Lee: Hardcore and Uncensored,” which featured Pamela Lee-Anderson's and former Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee’s private moments.
According to a representative for Red Light District, to date, "1 Night in Paris" has sold more than 500,000 copies with at least as many bootlegged copies, totaling upwards of a million copies, and sales continue at a healthy pace.
“The Paris Hilton DVD was big for everyone in 2004, mainly based on the huge name recognition and the legendary Internet hype," JT Smith, DP's director of marketing, said. "That Island Fever 3 has already exceeded the sales of '1 Night In Paris' is a testament to the quality movies put out by Joone and Digital Playground. Sales continue to grow for this DVD, and we have yet to see the peak.”
DP also announced plans to release "Island Fever 3" in HD video-on-demand format through Adult DVD Empire, making it the first adult HD VOD download. According to O'Neil, only one scene will be released because the file is so large.
