Dolly Buster Runs for Seat in Parliament

ROME — Members of European Parliament are hedging their bets that the newest member of the esteemed ruling board might be adult film star Dolly Buster. Although Buster, also known as Nora Baumberger, is up against some equally colorful competition, including a super model and a soccer player.

A native of the Czech Republic, 34-year-old Buster belongs to a quasi-political party called the Independent Erotic Initiative, although according to reports, the group has since dropped the "erotic" part of their title.

The European Parliament is known for a fairly eccentric electoral process and has only limited influence on European Union policy-making.

Buster is running as part of the inclusion of 10 new territories from the old Soviet bloc.

A close contender to Buster is Estonian supermodel Carmen Kass who promises to raise her nation's profile if she gets a seat.

Other quirky candidates include Mladen Rudonja of Slovenia who has played national soccer and once qualified his team for a World Cup appearance in 2002.

The European Parliament election process takes four days and begins on Thursday.
