'Being Black in Porn' Wins Best Documentary at Lightbox International Film Fest

KINGSTON, Ontario — The Lightbox International Film Festival has bestowed Best Documentary honors upon "Being Black in Porn," the indie doc centered on DeAngelo Jackson, Dillon Diaz, Rock Rockafella, Max Konnor and others.

The award follows a Best Documentary win at the ReelOut Film Festival earlier this year.

The film, directed by Dwight Allen O'Neal and produced by Mile High Media in association with Noir Male and Off The Clock Productions, follows the lives of four gay men of color as they navigate their way through the competitive and often complicated adult film industry. Jackson also serves as narrator and executive producer.

“I want to thank everyone involved in this project and Lightbox for accepting our feature into their international festival and honoring us with the Best Documentary award,” O'Neal said, adding that the win was a wonderful way to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the feature's trailer release. “Our hope is that our documentary creates a better understanding of gay, BIPOC sex workers and sends a message to everyone that Black lives matter everywhere and within every industry.”

Jackson added that he felt "humbled and beyond grateful for the film’s continued positive recognition."

"This being our second 'Best Documentary' award is unexpected and inspiring. Thank you to Lightbox for this honor," he said. "I appreciate Dillion Diaz, Max Konnor and Rock Rockafella for agreeing to be a part of this project, along with all who spoke their truth for our documentary. What a dream to know it’s reaching an international audience."
