LOS ANGELES — Adult performers of color have produced and released a “Get out the Vote” PSA titled “Putting the O in Voting.”
“When a Black and Latinx couple get turned on about voting in the new election video ‘Putting the O in Voting,’ you know this isn’t your traditional PSA,” said a rep.
“The short adult film blends social justice, civic engagement and sexual pleasure to encourage voters of color to turn up and turn out for what many are calling the most important election of our lifetime,” the rep continued.
“Putting to O in Voting” is a collaboration between Favianna.com, Lotus Lain and Gordon B Productions.
The film is described as “the story of a young couple who are energized to vote in this incredible time in history and who are determined to organize their friends and family.”
The multiracial team of creators sought to create a piece that was both sexually bold and contained a message to consumers of adult films — "get out there and vote."
A Deliberately Diverse Project
The filmmakers say the short film was deliberate in being diverse and inclusive, from the selection of the adult performers to the soundtrack by the East L.A. band Las Cafeteras.
“Putting the O in Voting” co-stars Marina Maree and Scotty P, two young adult actors of color who are active in social and political causes.
Executive Producer Favianna Rodriguez was “really excited to feature Marina, a Latina, because I know that the Latinx vote is so critical in this election, and I know that there’s still a lot of machismo culture that makes it challenging to talk about sex in a positive light.”
“My goal was to produce a story that would disrupt the status quo in multiple ways,” Rodriguez explained.
Director Gordon B was thrilled to collaborate with a mostly women of color team on the project.
“Adult film to get out the vote? Of course,” Gordon B offered. “We bring our whole selves into the voting booth, including the parts that orgasm. There are critical sexual health issues at stake with this election. Being politically engaged could and should be a lot more like great sex: there should be respect and honest communication, we should be free to be ourselves and it should feel fantastic.”
Producer, writer and activist Lotus Lain said “it has been an honor being a part of this truly unique form of voter engagement through sexual art. I co-wrote this as an ode to what I personally find sexy in a civically engaged man, while also adding a reference to my own personal heritage in casting Latina actress Marina, who is Mexican, and pro-dancer Scotty P, who is Black.”
“Voting is near and dear to my heart as I always keep in mind what our predecessors went through to get us this right,” Lain added. “Shout-outs to the ancestors!”
The nine-minute film is available for a limited time here and via several tube sites; a SFW version can also be found on YouTube.
