Violet Rain Funeral Fundraiser Launched, Mystery Around OD Persists

MEZA, Ariz — Friends and family of adult performer Violet Rain, who passed away last month, ten days after being dropped off unconscious at a Boyle Heights hospital, have set up a GoFundMe account to help with the funeral expenses.

The GoFundMe gives a harrowing account of the circumstances of her passing. It was created on March 14, around the time of her being pronounced dead, but only shared with people who knew her as an adult performer yesterday evening, through her professional Twitter account.

Rain had been dropped off at Adventist Health White Memorial in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, in the early morning of Monday, March 4. She had apparently gone clubbing the night of Sunday, March 3.

The heartbroken friends and family, describe Rain, a 19-year-old from the Phoenix suburb of Mesa, Ariz., as “a sweet, down to earth, kind, young beautiful girl with everything to look forward to in life. She was loved by so many and by her long time boyfriend Steven who dedicated every night and day at the hospital with her, [and] who is absolutely devastated by her loss.”

“She moved to Los Angeles to pursue modeling less than a year ago,” the text of the GoFundMe continues. “Unfortunately, she got involved with a toxic friend group full of low life promoters and people taking advantage of her kindness and controlling her in the night life industry. She was dropped off on the curb of the hospital dead and sexually assaulted.”

The account, credited to a “Fundraising Team” in Mesa, Ariz, also describes her stay at the hospital. According to the team, Rain “was revived twice [and] was put on life support […] and has passed away. Her boyfriend and her family are completely devastated. We are still trying to get justice for Jazmine. This was no accident and we will not stop fighting for her. Please help us raise money for her funeral and memorial, anything helps!”

Mystery Surrounding Violet Rain’s Last Hours Persists
The GoFundMe’s account of Rain’s last hours is consistent with information that was available to the LAPD at the time of her passing.

The investigation into Rain’s overdose was conducted by Detective David Meza, from the Hollenbeck Community Police Station. XBIZ spoke with Meza while Rain was unconscious between March 4 and March 14, and the detective informed us of her passing via text message.

While Rain remained alive but unresponsive, a source close to the investigation had mentioned that their hypothesis was that Rain had overdosed, possibly at a private residence far from Boyle Heights, and had been “dumped” at White Adventist after a car ride. The same source explained that the delay between the moment Rain OD’d and the time she arrived to the hospital might have proven fatal. If that was the case, according to that source, the moment Rain passed the investigation would automatically become a homicide investigation.

The same source confirmed that LAPD had questioned a person who was believed to have dropped off the unconscious Rain at the hospital.

As XBIZ reported on March 15, “we received unverified information from a reliable source close to the investigation that accounts had placed Violet at the Hollywood celebrity nightclub Nightingale Plaza until closing time on Sunday night, and after that at a private party at a home in the Pasadena Hills.”

A representative for LAPD told us then “We can’t comment on an ongoing investigation but if anyone knows anything about [Violet’s] whereabouts on the evening of [Sunday, March] 3 or the early morning of [March] 4, please email 27325@lapd.online."

XBIZ has repeatedly attempted to reach Det. Meza after March 15, trying to ascertain if the case was now a homicide investigation, if there had been new developments or if the case was open or closed. Our messages have been unanswered.

A Lifestyle Change
Other sources familiar with Rain in Los Angeles pointed out that the performer had “changed friends” in the weeks leading to the overdose.

Rain’s social media show her adopting a sophisticated nightlife persona in the weeks preceding her death, with selfies at club bathrooms showing her as a fashionable young woman about town instead of as the innocent, pastel-clad suburban out-of-town girl she was often typecast as.

“Why didn’t I say anything to Drake’s dad when I had the chance?” Rain Tweeted on March 2 at 6:30 p.m. “Someone help me stop being so shy. I was in the same room as him for at least two hours.” Dennis Graham, father of superstar Drake, was indeed out and about in Los Angeles that week promoting his upcoming album. He was photographed at some fashionable Hollywood nightlife spots, which is presumably where Rain spotted him.

“She was close to some girls from her agency [Motley Models] until late January,” said a person close to Rain. “But after she came back from Vegas she spoke more about doing mainstream modeling and music videos, and was hanging out with a party crowd of Soundcloud rappers, Instagram models and promoters. She stopped hanging out with her former industry friends, basically.”
