'Red Alert for Net Neutrality' Set for Wednesday

WASHINGTON — Some of the web’s most-popular brands — Pornhub, OK Cupid, Tumblr and Reddit, along with hundreds of other websites — are planning to participate in Wednesday’s “Red Alert for Net Neutrality” day of action.

The websites will display prominent messages on their homepages or in their apps, while internet users will be encouraged to flood social media with “red alert” messages and change their avatars.

The day of action is set to coincide with the next step in an ongoing process in the Senate to use the Congressional Review Act to put a halt to the FCC's repeal of the 2015 net neutrality rules.

On Wednesday, a group of lawmakers will present a petition to force a vote on a resolution to undo the net neutrality rollback. The act gives Congress 60 legislative days in which to roll back the FCC's decision, which was made in February.

The day of action — hosted by Free Press Action Fund, Fight for the Future and Demand Congress — is calling on individuals to contact Congress in a show of support for the resolution.

Websites will post red banners online, both on their websites and on social media.

This is not the first time companies have rallied behind net neutrality; there was a similar “Red Alert for Net Neutrality” day of action last summer.
