Tenga Surveys U.K. Adults About Masturbation

TOKYO — Tenga conducted a study of 2,000 U.K. adults and reports that openness about masturbation is a growing trend.

A quarter (25 percent) of millennials (aged 18-34s) say that they talk openly about masturbation at least once a month with friends or partners, compared to only 3 percent of baby boomers (over 55s).

Nearly half of millennials (45 percent) say they are comfortable talking openly about masturbation compared with 28 percent or Gen X-ers and 20 percent of baby boomers respectively. The generation gap is reflected in masturbation habits and attitudes as well, the company says.

More than four in five (83 percent) British people in a relationship say they masturbate when they are alone and more than half (51 percent) of them say their other half is aware of it.

Half of Brits in a relationship (50 percent) said that they feel comfortable talking openly about masturbation with their partner. Two thirds (67 percent) of millennials are happy talking to their partner about their masturbation habits, compared with 37 percent of baby boomers.

The desire to be open about masturbation in relationships is a growing trend, the company reports, as a fifth of couples (22 percent) said they want to be more open about their masturbation habits with their partner.

According to the survey results, the most popular person to think about when masturbating among the participants was their current partner (35 percent), rather than fantasizing about a celebrity (16 percent) or past lover (23 percent). Four in 10 (39 percent) men said that they think about their current partner while masturbating.
