SHE L.A. Preview: Navigate Alternative Lifestyles With Dirty Lola
LOS ANGELES — Sexuality today is taking on many different forms and speaker Dirty Lola will help attendees make sense of it all at the Sexual Health Expo on Jan. 16-17 in Los Angeles in her talk, “Navigating Alternative Lifestyles,” presented by Sex Ed sponsor The Pleasure Chest.
Lola said that many people are drawn to alternative lifestyles such as BDSM, polyamory, and swinging because they are seeking to explore a different side of themselves. As part of the learning process, people often feel that it is important to find a community to help educate them on their new lifestyle journey. For some, seeking out a community for education and camaraderie can be the most difficult part of the journey. At times, it may feel as though you have joined a club, but never learned the secret handshake.
In her eye-opening session, Lola will share ways to find a person’s place within the alternative community that meshes with their needs and desires. She’ll cover topics ranging from appropriate lifestyle etiquette and finding a community, to negotiation and safety.
“When I started exploring kink and polyamory I often found myself feeling like an outsider. I felt like I’d joined a secret club, and never learned the secret handshake,” Lola said. “It took a lot of time and a lot of trial and error to find communities, and to find myself within those communities. I wanted to give others a boost through the process, so I pulled together all of the tips and resources I’d gathered over the years and put them into my talk where I’ll discuss finding a community that meshes with people’s needs and desires, etiquette, negotiation and safety. I try to hit all of the important points for lifestyle newbies.”
The speaker is also personally excited about the L.A. event.
She commented, “If this year’s Sex Health Expo is anything like last year’s expo I’m expecting a lot of eager folks ready to learn and have fun while doing so. The Sexual Health Expo is so great because they work with companies like The Pleasure Chest who know quality sex ed, and give educators like myself a chance to reach out to a new audience.”
