DIMOCO Analyzes Carrier Billing Market in France

BRUNN am GEBIRGE/VIENNA, Austria — DIMOCO today released its analysis of the French carrier billing market.

The report was conducted in cooperation with Juniper Research and Price Waterhouse Coopers.

With 71.6 million mobile subscribers and 61.4 percent smartphone penetration, carrier billing is the number one digital payment method in France, according to the report. And smartphone use has increased by more than 40 percent in recent years.

E-publishing and e-games will be the biggest digital content markets in France, both ripe for carrier billing.

According to the report, goods and services can be billed as one-offs and subscription services within a price range of 5 cents to 30 euros via direct carrier and ISP billing. DIMOCO said that through carrier billing, companies can reach a potential of 71.6 million mobile subscribers in France.

DIMOCO explained that the French digital content market is divided into four segments including e-publishing, e-games, home video and music. The publishing area — including e-books, e-magazines and e-newspapers — will increase from 1.3 billion euros in 2015 to 2.2 billion euros in 2018. The e-games market is leading the digital content market area with an expected sale of 1.8 billion euros in 2015 and 2.3 billion euros in 2018. Home video will double revenues from 768 million euros in 2015 to 1.6 billion euros in 2018. In comparison to these three growing markets, the digital music segment will diminish from 133 million euros in 2015 to 104 million euros in 2018.

The entire digital content market in Europe will show a market growth of 32 percent from 28 billion euros in 2015 increasing to 37 billion euros in 2018, the study said. In 2015, 2.6 billion euros and in 2018 7.2 billion euros of that amount will be billed via carrier billing in Europe.

The company noted that the French mobile network market is operated by Orange (with 37.8 percent market share), SFR (29.9 percent), Bouygues Telecom (15.5 percent) and others (16.8 percent).

“As the leading carrier billing provider we gain deep market insights which we happily share in our outstanding publications,” CEO Gerald Tauchner said. “France is a huge market which gives merchants a great chance to use carrier billing to boost their sales achievements.”
