Sin City Gallery Issues Call for Art Entries for '12 Inches of Sin'

LAS VEGAS — The Sin City Gallery in Vegas has announced its annual call for art entries for its celebrated jury show of provocative contemporary art, "12 Inches of Sin."

Billed as "the largest international juried exhibition of contemporary provocative art in Nevada," the "12 Inches of Sin" show is an exploration of sensuality and the erotic with a twist: every piece submitted for consideration must be one foot square or less.

Judges such as former Las Vegas mayor Oscar Goodman, Catherine Johnson-Roehr, curator of The Kinsey Institute, and Will Roger Peterson, co-founder of Burning Man, evaluate the tension within the art itself, challenging each artist to produce an image that is "deeply expressive, provocative, sensory and daring on such a small scale."

Sin City Gallery, Las Vegas will hold the competition for its fifth year and is accepting art submissions through Oct. 31, 2015 at 12ofsin.com.

Dr. Laura Henkel, Sin City Gallery director and "12 Inches of Sin" creator, remarked, “We are so thrilled with growth of the competition and exhibitions. Last year was a significant one for us, artists from 20 different countries participated.

"Submissions have grown 750 percent since the juried show started in 2011. Our Kickstarter campaign last year was fully funded within two weeks to produce the hardcover book series, '12 Inches of Sin: So Much Art You Can Barely Fit It All In.' We continue to attract the best international artists to submit, as well as leaders in arts and culture to judge.”

Henkel is also introducing "Obscura," a new juried competition and exhibition for photography. This came about because so many entries were photographic work it seemed that the genre needed its own category and exhibition. For this first time call, photographic submissions may be made with traditional or newer digital methods as well as short films. The winning artwork will premiere in an exhibition at the gallery and be featured in an accompanying catalog published by the gallery.
