ICM Registry Scores Publicity Coup With Taylor Swift Domain Buys

MIAMI — Pop star Taylor Swift’s move to scoop up TaylorSwift.porn and TaylorSwift.adult domains during ICM Registry’s sunrise period is a big publicity coup for the TLD operator.

ICM Registry CEO Stuart Lawley, who spoke with CNN last week, revealed the purchases by Swift’s camp, and the story has traveled far and wide.

By mid-morning on Monday, more than 200 media outlets have been beating the drum on news that celebrities like Swift and big brands have been racing to snap up domains in advance of the “sunrise” deadline for .porn and .adult domains.

Starting June 1, anyone or any company will be able to purchase domains ending in .adult and .porn, as well as 547 other options.

Lawley, in the CNN interview, also revealed that Microsoft acquired the Office.porn and Office.adult domains.

While the Taylor Swift-ICM Registry story sure had legs, TheDomains.com noted that there was another domain name registered this past weekend that didn’t make any headlines.

TaylorSwiftPorn.com was registered under privacy at GoDaddy.com, according to Michael Berkens of TheDomains.com.

It seems “likely that TaylorSwiftPorn.com was registered by someone reading one of those stories in the non-domainer publications like Billboard and TMZ and went ahead and registered the .com which was available to be registered,” Berkens said.

“Unlike .porn and .adult domains, which are not live yet, TaylorSwiftPorn.com works right now, and looks to be like a glaring big miss by her and/or her representatives,” he said.
