Dave Naz Launches New Photo Book, 'Genderqueer' at Coagula Curatorial

LOS ANGELES — Veteran crossover photographer Dave Naz will be presenting his solo exhibition, “Identity,” and launching his new photo book, "Genderqueer," at Coagula Curatorial located in the Chinatown area of L.A.

The opening reception is on Nov. 8, from 7-11 p.m., and the exhibit will run until Dec. 20.

In “Identity,” Naz explores the gender spectrum by turning his camera on transgender, intersex, pangender and “every shade in between.”

By focalizing those who don’t fit neatly into any pre-determined box, Naz hopes to add to the growing discussion of gender identity, and shed a positive light on new, fluid expressions that have begun to surface and gain acceptance.

Many of his subjects include noted adult trans performers — like Buck Angel, Jiz Lee and James Darling — who have helped pave the way for alternative genders and body acceptance in the porn world and far beyond.

Concurrent with the exhibit, Naz is releasing his eighth book, the hardcover “Genderqueer: And Other Gender Identities,” published through Rare Bird Books.

"Genderqueer" features Naz’s artful full-page photos of his eclectic subjects. It also includes essays by Jiz Lee, Morty Diamond, Ignacio Rivera, Jenny Factor and Sarah B. Burghauser.

Born in Los Angeles in 1969, Naz’s photographs are shown in galleries around the world. Goliath Press has published five of his books, including “Lust Circus” (2002), “Panties” (2003), “Legs” (2004), “Fresh: Girls Of Seduction” (2006) and “L.A. Bondage” (2007).

Additionally, his work has appeared in GQ, Maxim, Stern. de, and Salon. Several of Naz’s photos appear in the artwork of Richard Prince.
