Golden Age Starlet Serena Releases 'Memory Book' Through BearManor

LOS ANGELES — BearManor Media, the publishing company responsible for launching the autobiographies of John Holmes, Seka, Howie Gordon and other true “golden blue” royalty, has announced the upcoming addition of Serena Czarnecki to its roster of classic adult memoirists.

Bright Lights, Lonely Nights: The Memories of Serena, Porn Star of the 1970’s” is set to release on Thanksgiving through BearManor Bare, BearManor’s new exclusively adult category.

Czarnecki — AKA Serena Blacklord, Serena Blacquelord, Linda Broome — was active in the adult industry from 1970 to 1984 during the so-called Golden Age of porn.

“I was over the moon when I heard Serena was writing a book,” BearManor founder Ben Ohmart told XBIZ. “It's the kind of thing all classic adult film lovers will want to read. I gobbled it up in a day.”

In the introduction of “Bright Lights, Lonely Nights,” California-native Czarnecki insists that she came from a good home and a good family, never experienced abuse or drug addiction, and enjoyed growing up as a flower child during the 60’s and 70’s. She was influenced by uninhibited spirits like Jim Morrison, Gloria Steinem, Janis Joplin, and Marilyn Monroe, who began posing for Playboy in the 60’s.

When Czarnecki came of age, many forms of sexual expression, including homosexuality and sodomy, were outlawed or shunned as taboo. Inspired by the sexual revolution that was taking hold of America and breaking down its strict social mores, she decided to actively fight repression with no-holds-barred participation.

“With no restraints, I dove into waiting arms and was pulled to the river of brilliance and the madness of movie making,” Czarnecki writes in the introduction. “I was glad to be going anywhere. In the mid 1970’s, my BODY was the Art. I wanted pleasure. Painting and poetry could wait.” She notes that her main handicap in life was her long-undiagnosed bi-polar disorder.

Spanning more than 400 pages, “Bright Lights, Lonely Nights” details Czarnecki’s early life, her entry into and experience in porn, as well as chapters about her romantic partners and brushes with famous people (Timothy Leary, Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Jim Henson, among others). It also includes photos and poems written by Czarnecki herself.

“Melding natural beauty and raw sexuality with an intuitive, ethereal sensitivity, Serena created an abiding presence on screen,” writes Jill C. Nelson, author of “Golden Goddesses: 25 Legendary Women of Classic Erotic Cinema.” “Almost 40 years after her film debut, exquisitely characterized by quiet wisdom and honesty, Serena continues to mystify and titillate fans. In her ‘memory book’ Serena has crafted an odyssey of events, ruminations and images reflecting an inspired age of liberation.”

Fans can rest assured of Czarnecki’s appreciation throughout the years. She give them the first ink in her dedication section: “If you came while watching a porn film between 1975 and 1984, chances are you were jacking off to me. So I dedicate this book to you.”
