Bunny Yeager Pin-Up Art Exhibit Opens at Sin City Gallery in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS — The Sin City Gallery has opened a special exhibition featuring the work of the late pin-up photographer Bunny Yeager.

Admirers of retro aesthetics are in for a treat, as the legendary “pin–up girl” photographer's first solo show, titled "Bunny’s Bombshells,” opened on Thursday and will be displayed through July 20, 2014. The curators say this is a rare opportunity to see and enjoy the golden age of this visual style.

Yeager started out as model in the 1950’s, and only picked up a camera to take her own portfolio shots. She quickly found a calling: as talented as she was before the camera, Yeager proved to be a genius behind it.

Yeager brought a unique point of view to a formerly male-dominated craft. Beauty, lightness and spontaneity became the trademark in the pictures of Bunny's girls. She discovered Bettie Page and made her the icon of the 1950’s she remains today, and was the first woman to have shot for Playboy, and has created some of the magazine's most emblematic covers.

Yeager’s work stayed relevant in the 1960’s as well. She photographed Ursula Andress in James Bond’s "Dr. No." Other famous Bunny girls include Maria Stinger, Lisa Winters, Joyce Nisari, and Burlesque Hall of Fame founder Dixie Evans.

Guests for the first exhibition in Las Vegas are her agent Ed Christin and Berlin-based gallerist Helmut Schuster. The Schuster gallery is a partner of the event in Las Vegas.

“We are very honored to exhibit the works of such an influential and prolific artist as Ms. Yeager in Las Vegas," said gallery owner Laura Henkel. "Not many people know that Bunny started her career in Las Vegas. I hope many will take the opportunity to see her work in person. It certainly is a rare opportunity to have access to one of the most recognized contemporary art portfolios that continues to influences art and culture.”

The next exhibition of Yeager's work will be presented by Gavlak Gallery at Art Basel Miami later this year. Yeager passed away last month in Miami at the age of 85.
