SAN FRANCISCO — Domain registry service Famous Four Media said today that it has sold a package of 15 .webcam domain names to a single buyer.
The deal, valued at $175,000, was for adult entertainment terms in the .webcam registry.
Officials from Famous Four Media and HuntingMoon, which co-brokered the new generic top-level domain sale with Media Options S.A. and Domain Broker UK, declined to reveal the buyer nor all of the website names. However, The Domains reported today that two of the 15 names are Tube.webcam and Asian.webcam.
HuntingMoon CEO Evan Horowitz told XBIZ .webcam TLD names should be particularly valuable if search engines rank them.
"Webcam customers have an excellent lifetime value and are not affected as much by piracy as typical adult products are presently," Horowitz said. "Should Google recognize developed .webcam sites and rank them accordingly, then the current speculation will lead to windfall profits."
Famous Four Media's chief marketing officer, Andy Churley, said that .webcam, along with other gTLDs the company currently manages have seen growing interest as the launch period approaches.
In addition to .webcam, the company, founded in 2011, manages 53 other gTLDs, including .win, .trade, .bid, .racing and .men.
“Agreeing a six-figure cash deal so early in a registry’s life is a testament to the strength of the .webcam suffix, the capability of the staff at Famous Four Media and the willingness of its broker network to collaborate,” Churley said.
