Pornotopia Film Festival Calls for Submissions

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico — Pornotopia Film Festival is gearing up for its fifth year with an open call for 2014 submissions underway.

All interested filmmakers can submit their content via Pornotopia’s website through June 30 for a chance to be featured in the Pornotopia Film Festival that will be held from Nov. 14-16 at The Guild Cinema in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Pornotopia reps say the brand values “luscious, kinky, consensual, gender-bending, sex-positive, empowering, educational and downright dirty interpretations of the erotic on the big screen.” Past notable featured filmmakers include Tony Comstock, Tristan Taormino, Shine Louise Houston and others.

“Your work can change how people’s bodies, hearts and oh so many other parts are introduced, explained, viewed and celebrated,” Pornotopia said in a release. “Whether you’re a weekend indie filmmaker or an important cog in big-budget, mainstream Hollywood, we want to see your work. We especially welcome films by rural filmmakers, people of color, people with disabilities, transgender filmmakers, and people of size. We look forward to showing films that get pulses racing and brains pulsing.”

Festival judges will be curating the submitted films, making “porn mix tapes,” which will often feature a scene or excerpt from a full-length scene.

“So, while we may not show full-length films, your (and our) favorite scenes will be in fantastic company, and we will make it easy for folks to find you before and after the show,” a rep said.

Pornotopia first launched on Albuquerque’s scene in 2007. While the festival was well-attended from 2007 to 2009, the Guild Cinema was cited with a zoning violation in 2008 for showing an erotic film. In 2013 that violation was overturned by the New Mexico State Supreme Court.

Reps explained, “Empowered by our recent court victory, we intend to showcase films that feature taboo — and often censored — sex acts, such as fisting. Help us change the face of porn.”

Films can be submitted at SelfServeToys.com/pornotopia/submit/.
