Reuters Covers Vivid-Alt’s Rock Connection

NEW YORK — While Eon McKai directs adult movies for Vivid Entertainment’s offshoot label, Vivid-Alt, his films’ soundtracks sometimes generate more buzz than the sex in his movies do. Reuters reporter Molly Brown covered the porn and rock connection in McKai’s movies in an article on Monday.

Vivid-Alt’s newest release “Girls Lie” starring Charlotte Stokely, Riley Mason, Pixie Pearl and Dana DeArmond includes an original CD soundtrack of music from the movie. Featured artists include Vice Records’ Panthers, Matador Records’ Matmos, Tommie Sunshine, SBSRX, Wolves in the Thrown Room, C.P., Anavan and Subarachnoid Space.

McKai, mainly “recruits acts mostly through the West Coast music scene and word-of-mouth, but also connects with bands online,” Brown said.

“After watching Eon’s last film, I reached out to him on MySpace and told him I liked the way he was presenting porn,” Brooklyn, N.Y.-based DJ Tommie Sunshine told Reuters about getting onto the “Girls Lie” soundtrack.

So far, Vivid-Alt has released four movies, “and Vivid estimates that they have reached 3.5 million people through physical sales and rentals, the Internet and video-on-demand. Nine more films are scheduled for release by the end of 2007 — all packaged with a CD soundtrack,” Brown said.

The Vivid-Alt label, which opened operations this year, is a partnership between Vivid and Eon McKai Productions. McKai helms a roster of alt directors that include Dave Naz, who directed “Skater Girl Fever,” and Octavio “Winkytiki” Arizala, who directed the inaugural Vivid-Alt film, “The Rebelle Rousers.”
