Venus Berlin Attracts Record Crowds

BERLIN — The Venus Berlin Trade Fair not only celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2006, it also recorded several milestones. This year’s show marked a 10.5 percent increase in participating retailers and 20 percent more consumers than the previous year. Venus Berlin 2006 also attracted more exhibitors and trade visitors, beating show organizers’ projected estimates.

According to official show data, the Venus Berlin fair drew 355 exhibitors from 32 countries to demonstrate and exhibit their products, 5,597 retailers from 58 countries traveled to Berlin to sell their products and services and more than 24,500 consumers attended the fair, which took up eight exhibition halls.

The show, which began in 1996, gradually replaced a smaller fair aimed exclusively at the German market. This year’s show featured a new exhibition, the Venus Web Area. The Internet-focused exhibition area served as a meeting place for Internet-based industry professionals to link forces with brick-and-mortar businesses, show organizer Sven Hurum said.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors, partners, exhibitors, retailers and visitors for helping to make the 10th Venus Berlin such a success,” Venus Berlin’s Axel Schaffrath said. “This result was only possible because everyone was prepared to do their utmost to ensure it’s [success]. Success was evident from the beginning as exhibitors and retailers alike were soon able to see the positive results. As in previous years, the organization and excellent service on every aspect of the trade fair were praised.”

International media coverage of the show was abundant Schaffrath said, with 717 accredited members of the press attending.

Show organizers celebrated Venus’ 10th anniversary with a gala for 900 guests at the Estrel Hotel. The show featured a speech from Hurum and a performance from Right Said Fred.
