LELO Announces Latest Fundraiser for Shannon Collins Garden

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — A Strawberry Festival will take place at the Walnut Avenue Women’s Center on June 7, and LELO is calling on volunteers to lend their support in preparing for the event on May 3.

“On Saturday, May 3, we will prepare our Veggie Patch pallets to be sold at the Strawberry Festival at the Women's Center on June 7,” organizers said. “Please help us make this project possible by bringing or dropping off:  Strawberry seedlings, succulents, bags of potting soil, watering cans and small handheld gardening tools. All ages are invited and encouraged to join us in creating and continuing this garden.”

The organization also is seeking volunteers to work its booth at the Strawberry Field Festival, where strawberry pallets will sold to raise funds for the garden. The Strawberry Festival will take place at the Walnut Avenue Women's Center on Saturday, June 7, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Shannon Collins, co-owner of adult boutique Camouflage in Santa Cruz, was stabbed to death in broad daylight on May 7, 2012 by Charles Edwards III, a transient. Collins was an avid supporter of the Walnut Avenue Women's Center (WAWC).

LELO’s partnership with WAWC was publicized at the LELO 10th Anniversary Summit at the Monterey Bay Aquarium during a gala on Sept. 11, where LELO presented Jennifer Rose and Jennifer O’Brian-Rojo, from WAWC, and Ken Vinson, Shannon Collins’ husband, with the tools to begin planting the Shannon Collins Memorial Garden.
