Dirty Bob Spotlights First 10 Years of NightMoves Awards in New Book

LOS ANGELES — Dirty Bob, the co-chairman of the X-Rated Critics Organization, said his new book “Tampa Teasers & Other Imports” recounts dozens of the unique experiences he had during the first 10 years of the annual NightMoves Awards Show.

The Tampa, Fla.-based show, inspired by the regional adult magazine of the same name, this October will put on its 22nd annual event. It traditionally has kicked off the porn awards season that concludes with the XRCO Awards in April. Dirty Bob, an adult industry film critic since the late 80’s, wrote about the hundreds of adult stars and behind-the-scenes happenings he saw during the first decade of NightMoves, 1993-2002.

“I have so many great memories of going down there,” Dirty Bob said recently from his home in Kettering, Ohio. “The first 10 years of the show were just awesome, so much fun.”

Dirty Bob said he worked closely with the NightMoves founders Paul and Tracy Allen to help get up to 50 porn stars to the show every year.

“There were some big-name stars, too. They all stayed at the same hotel and hung out at the pool,” Dirty Bob recalled. “It was the most relaxed time in those days because that was the mindset of people during that first 10 years of the show. Everyone didn’t have cell phones in the first couple years. People didn’t have to worry about social media. Very few people had press representation; everybody did it themselves. It was just a simpler time with great people.”

Also known in porn as the Tampa Show, NightMoves has become part of local community. Dirty Bob recalled how dozens of stars would visit the various adult bookstores in Tampa and promote while they were in town.

“And it’s still going strong. That’s actually the third longest running industry awards show,” he said.

Dirty Bob told XBIZ his book includes hundreds of photos that he saved through the years. “Fortunately, I had all the resources, the videos, notes and photos that I was able to use when it came time to do the book,” he said.

So far the feedback about "Tampa Teasers" has been quite positive, according to Dirty Bob. “People absolutely love it, especially if they were involved in any aspect of the show during that time. If you were a performer, it’s great to relive those times and same with the fans.”

The XRCO co-chair since 2004, Dirty Bob by day owns his own photo studio in Ohio, where he specializes in taking portraits and shooting weddings. He majored in photography in college and had a minor in English with an emphasis on movie criticism.

He also authored “Naked Came the Pornstar,” which is a collection of interviews with adult performers and industry personalities.

“Tampa Teasers & Other Imports,” which is 264 pages, is available in both printed form and as an e-book on Amazon.com.
