Sirius to Webcast Playboy Radio, ‘Stern’

NEW YORK — In an effort to grab a larger share of listeners, Sirius Satellite Radio, home of Playboy Radio and “The Howard Stern Radio Show,” is launching an Internet radio portal.

The Oct. 25 launch will include more than 75 channels of Sirius programming for a monthly subscription fee of $12.95. Sirius says that its site will be accessible without charge on Oct. 25 and Oct. 26. Online Registration will be required.

Playboy Radio features numerous shows, including “Night Calls,” hosted by Christy Canyon and Ginger Lynn, and “The Playboy Radio Morning Show.” The station also includes the “Playmate Hour,” featuring current and past Playboy Playmate centerfolds and “Afternoon Advice,” an afternoon call-in show hosted by Tiffany Granath and a panel of sex experts.

“The Howard Stern Radio Show,” and Stern’s two channels that include nearly 20 years of programming, started broadcasting on Sirius in January. Stern signed a five year contract with the company for a reported $500 million. His show features a galaxy of porn stars, as well as “Lesbian Dial-a-Date” and “Stripper Jeopardy.”

Sirius programming had been available on the Internet before, but only to existing customers who had purchased a satellite receiver in addition to the $12.95 monthly radio subscription.

Under the new stand-alone Internet package, surfers around the world can subscribe and listen to Stern online without first having to buy satellite hardware, which is sold only in North America.

Sirius rival XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. offers its own stand-alone Internet service for $7.99 a month.
