Ira Isaacs: 'I'm Doing the Right Thing'

SAN FRANCISCO — Ira Isaacs, a fetish film distributor who has been fighting obscenity charges for seven years, will be heading to court yet again March 5, where his case will be heard at the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

“I feel like I’m doing the right thing standing up for freedom,” Isaacs told XBIZ today. “Many people would not stand up — believe me, the pleas were generous. I hope I win.”

Isaacs’ attorney will be given 15 minutes to argue the case.

Likening himself to a “political prisoner” in the hands of “Christian crazies,” Isaacs says that his appeal rests solely on proving that he was denied apt due process in his third and most recent trial in April of 2012, not whether or not he is guilty of violating federal obscenity laws. His two previous trials were declared mistrials.

Isaacs said that he was constantly interrupted at the last trial, effectively preventing him from speaking and explaining the artistic merit of the pornographic videos in question. He noted that other errors added to his defense’s decision to argue again for mistrial.

“As an American, never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be denied the opportunity to defend myself,” he explained. “I wish the Rapture would come and take them all.”

Isaacs was found guilty on five counts of violating federal obscenity laws over the mail distribution of "Mako’s First Time Scat, " "Hollywood Scat Amateurs #7," "Hollywood Scat Amateurs #10" and "Japanese Doggie 3 Way."
