Center for Sex & Culture Participating in Fundraiser

SAN FRANCISCO — The Center for Sex & Culture announced that it will participate in #GivingTuesday, an online non-profit fundraising event, on Dec. 3.

#GivingTuesday is a social media campaign to create a national holiday of giving at the start of the annual holiday season, and to encourage charitable activities that support non-profit organizations, such as the San Francisco-based Center for Sex & Culture.

The Center for Sex & Culture was founded in 2000 by noted sexologists Drs. Carol Queen and Robert Lawrence with the goal of preserving our collective sexual histories, and providing a much-needed community space for writers, researchers, artists and activists.

The mission of the all-volunteer organization is to provide judgment-free education, cultural events, a library, archive, gallery space and other resources to audiences across the sexual and gender spectrum. It is also to research and disseminate factual information informing issues of public policy and public health.

According to author, activist, and radio host Tristan Taormino, “For LGBTQIA folks, our cultural histories are often the most underrepresented and the least archived, yet it is vital that our stories, our histories, and our truths — especially when it comes to our sexuality — be preserved for future generations. The Center for Sex & Culture is an invaluable community resource: it has created a space that both honors our past and inspires our future.”

Dr. Carol Queen, the Executive Director of the CSC, said, “#GivingTuesday is a wonderful way for supporters of the Center for Sex & Culture to not only donate in support of the organization, but to easily let their friends and networks know about CSC through social media and inspire them to give, too.

“The donations from #GivingTuesday will allow the Center for Sex & Culture to provide low-cost space to small organizations that need it; get our library ready to begin a public loan program; and finish our restroom accessibility project. We're so grateful to the public for their generosity — donations and events are the main ways we keep our doors open.”

To give on Dec.3, go to the CSC page at the fundraising website Razoo and donate. Any amount will be accepted; and since the CSC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, gifts are tax-deductible.
