Monarchy Distribution Celebrates 3 Years in Business

LOS ANGELES — Monarchy Distribution was founded in Nov. 2010 as a one-man operation and, three years later, has released more than 600 titles and now boasts a staff of 15, founder Mike Kulich said.

"I can't believe it has been three years already," Kulich said. "When I first came out with the idea it seemed like more of a pipe dream. With the DVD market starting to decline and everything going digital, at times I questioned myself wondering if continuing with DVD was the right choice. Looking back it was the best decision I have ever made."

He added, “I think our success has proved that the DVD market is still extremely profitable and tangible. DVD may not be around forever, but I am confident that Monarchy will be one of the last ones standing."

The company currently maintains 15 studios, each catering to a specific niche. Each studio releases on average between 2-4 titles per month, Kulich said.

In addition, the company caters to individual performers who shoot their own content. In 2012, Monarchy released BBW icon Kelly Shibari's self-produced title "Kelly Shibari Is Overloaded," which garnered a number of industry awards and nominations.

The company has also signed Get Shot!, the Sacramento punk band that released a video of their bassist Laura Lush masturbating on the front lawn of the Westboro Baptist Church..

Kulich says that in the coming year, Monarchy plans to release DVDs from online star Addie Juniper and MILF favorite Carey Riley.

Since the release of it first title “Anal Artists,” which featured an unreleased scene starring Sasha Grey, Kulich’s studio has gotten mentions in mainstream publications Huffpo, Forbes Magazine, New York Magazine, Instinct Magazine and others. The studio has also received 20 industry awards and nominations since its advent in 2010.
