Ann Summers Blocks 'Rampant Rabbi' Trademark

LONDON — Jewish comedian Shed Simone has been marketing his personally designed Rampant Rabbi sex toy, despite opposition from the high-end adult retail chain Ann Summers.

Simone says that his hand-crafted silicone dildo is aimed at “the modern Jewish woman,” and though he insists it was designed with humor, it is also intended to provide pleasure.

“The Rampant Rabbi is made with medical-grade silicone and is designed for pleasure,” the South London designer told the Jewish Chronicle. “I see giving pleasure however it is done as one of the highest callings in life — you could say it is a religious calling.”

But when he applied for a trademark last year, Ann Summers stepped in to block it.

“An application for the trademark Rampant Rabbi was challenged in 2012 due to a conflicting mark with our trademark, Rampant Rabbit,” a rep from the sex toy and lingerie behemoth said.

Despite being successfully deterred from trademarking the Rampant Rabbi, he continues to sell it for £99 on his website.

"I can't trademark it but I'm still using the name. I don't think there is any confusion between the products," he said.

Simone's site offers other personally designed silicone sex products, including Buckingham Phallus and Cunt Dracula.
