Kelly Shibari to Address Pasadena City College Students

LOS ANGELES — Kelly Shibari is scheduled to visit the Pasadena City College campus this Wednesday as a guest lecturer for Professor Hugo Schwyzer’s course titled “Navigating Pornography.”

Recent guests of Schwyzer’s course include James Deen and Jessica Drake. Shibari is scheduled to speak at 1:30 p.m. The lecture is open to enrolled students and invited media only.

Shibari, a popular Asian BBW performer and PaddedKINK.com director/producer, plans to address topics such as labels, body image and race, as well as hedonism, feminism, and sexuality. She previously spoke to Shwyzer’s class in April 2012.

“I’m honored to be invited back by Professor Schwyzer,” Shibari said. “The course, ‘Navigating Pornography,’ is one of the few of its kind, but it is a great addition to a university Humanities curriculum.”

The class will begin with Shibari discussing her background in the adult entertainment industry, views on body image and sexuality, and tenets on “intelligent hedonism,” followed by a Q&A session with the students.

“I want to discuss the use of labels about size, race, and more in society, both in regards to adult entertainment and our daily relationships and interactions,” Shibari said.

Pasadena City College’s "Navigating Pornography" course is part of Prof. Schwyzer's academic interest in history and gender studies. He has taught at Pasadena City College since 1993, in courses that have dealt with women’s history, men and masculinity, and gay and lesbian history. In the late 1990s, he developed the college’s first interdisciplinary course focusing on “Beauty and the Body," which is still offered at the college and focuses on the historical roots of contemporary eating disorders and distorted body image.
