Good Vibrations Announces Vibrator Art Contest

SAN FRANCISCO — Good Vibrations is celebrating 36 years of pleasure with a month of promotions and festivities including “Bling My Vibe,” a vibrator-crafting contest open to the public.

The contest invites sex and art celebrities as well as members of the public to make an art piece using a simple Smoothie Vibrator. The vibrator base will be available at all Good Vibrations retail stores for $3 from Jan. 15 through Feb.28 while supplies last.

Contestants are invited to paint it, decoupage, bejewel, sew it an outfit, or otherwise get creative with the vibrator “canvas.” These “arted- and tarted-up” vibes will be displayed at the Good Vibrations Polk Street store in San Francisco during the month of March. On March 29 the top three winners will be announced at a special party and awards ceremony. The winners will receive a Good Vibrations gift basket and gift card valued at $300, $200, and $100 respectively.

Proceeds for the vibes will go to Our Bodies Ourselves, one of  the company's GiVe non-profit partners during its birthday month.

To enter, a Good Vibrations Smoothie or comparable hard plastic Smoothie-style vibrator must be the basis of the art project. Any legal, non-contraband elements can be added to the vibrator of choice.

Finished vibrators may be displayed at Good Vibrations. Photos become the property of Good Vibrations to be displayed on its website and any other contexts it deems appropriate. The artist will retain ownership of the vibrator itself, and the artwork may be claimed after the art show is over.

Good Vibrations employees are invited to submit a vibe, but are not eligible to win. Participants must be 18 years and over.

Entries can be mailed or hand-delivered to the Good Vibrations store at 1620 Polk Street, San Francisco, California, 94109 starting Jan. 15 and no later than Feb. 28. Store hours are Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m., and Sunday through Thursday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.

The contest is co-sponsored by Good Vibrations and the East Bay Express.
