Replay Games to Develop Leisure Suit Larry Remake with Al Lowe

AUSTIN — Leisure Suit Larry creator Al Lowe has teamed up with Replay Games founder Paul Trowe to develop a remake of his beloved 1987 Sierra On-Line video game Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards.

Partially funded through the project's Kickstarter.com page, which helped raise $650,000, the remake will be made available for PC and mobile platforms and feature updated graphics, music, and user interface. The game is also providing Larry with a new Asian girl to hit on — a stipulation made early on by fans in exchange for their financial support.

"We’re bringing it into the 21st century onto PCs and tablets,” Lowe explains on his and Trowe's Kickstarter video. “And we want to do it without any pesky publishers telling us to dumb it down or make it tamer so we can get it into Walmart."

Trowe, who once worked as a beta tester for Leisure Suit Larry's original publisher Sierra On-Line, purchased the rights to Leisure Suit Larry in 2010 from Vivendi Universal. According to VentureBeat.com, he expects to launch "Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards: Reloaded" in January 2013, with Tel Aviv-based developer Adventure Mob at the helm.

The Leisure Suit Larry franchise, five games in all, sold more than 10 million copies between 1987 and 1996. The franchise follows the romantic escapades of Larry Laffer, a fashion-challenged, middle-aged salesman with a receding hairline and a penchant for sexual innuendo.
