Adam & Eve Survey Reveals American Masturbation Habits

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — The latest sex survey results from Adam & Eve reveal that most adults masturbate once or twice a week.

The web-based study, conducted by an independent third party survey company included more than 1,000 respondents over the age of 18. It was sponsored by Adam & Eve to study sexual preferences and practices.

Although 27 percent of those surveyed admitted to pleasuring themselves one or two times a week, the research shows that next highest percentage of respondents (19 percent) said they never do it. This is followed by 18 percent who admitted they masturbate once or twice a month, 11 percent who masturbated once every few months, 9 percent who say they masturbated every day, 8 percent who say they rarely masturbated, and 3 percent who say they masturbated more than once a day.

Dr. Kat Van Kirk, Adam & Eve’s resident sex expert said, “Masturbation is a fundamental building block in human sexuality. It’s surprising that so many adults still look to their partners to please them, when they don’t even know how to please themselves.

"While encouraging, I do believe the numbers are actually higher. There's still a social stigma associated with masturbation and previous research has indicated individuals tend to under report."
