Mozilla Launches Firefox 8 With Twitter Integration

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Mozilla launched Firefox 8 with new updates to make browsing easier and give developers and users more control over their web experience.

The upgrades apply to Firefox for Windows, Mac, Linux and the mobile Firefox for Android.

There are several new features that include Twitter search integration, on-demand tab group loading and more WebGL graphics hardware acceleration support, PCMag.com reported.

A new safety feature bans third-party software installations from adding extensions and allows users the ability to opt-in. Once upgraded, the users will be asked to select their add-ons.

Mozilla said that the new Twitter search integration “makes it easier to discover new topics #hashtags and @usernames.”

WebGL is a new web standard that allows websites and web apps to display hardware-accelerated 3D graphics without third-party software.

Firefox “adds support for Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS), which lets developers load WebGL textures from other domains in a secure way,” the company said.
