70 Porn Stars Show Up at Meeting Over Condom Use

LOS ANGELES — About 70 porn stars have shown up at a workplace safety meeting attended by Free Speech Coalition officials, health care groups and Cal/OSHA officials in a discussion over draft rules on mandating condoms in adult entertainment.

The boisterous meeting has been punctuated with its finger-pointing, screaming and yelling.

Many involved in the industry are saying the adult business is being unfairly singled out and that they oppose attempts by regulators to tell them what they can and can't do with their bodies.

At 1 p.m., the Cal/OSHA panel was going over proposed language in the draft of a workplace safety law and getting input only on the language. There also has been dialogue on control measures, alternate measures and medical services.

The draft rules could later go to Cal/OSHA's Standards Board for public meetings and ultimately become new regulations.

Cal/OSHA topics to be discussed at the meeting include; STI testing protocol; required use of condoms and other barrier protection (including gloves and eye protection); on-set hygiene; systems for medical services, post-exposure evaluations and follow-ups; vaccinations (HBV and HPV); performer training and education; record-keeping; and producer responsibility for compliance.

XBIZ continues coverage of the Cal/OSHA Advisory Subcommittee meeting throughout the day.
