Playboy Announces 1st-Ever 3D Centerfold

CHICAGO — More than 50 years after introducing the Playmate centerfold, Playboy is making history again with the introduction of its first-ever 3D centerfold in the magazine's June issue.

Playboy's 2010 Playmate of the Year, Hope Dworaczyk is featured in the 3D nude image, which, according to the company, “comes to life before readers' eyes.”

The centerfold is sponsored by cable TV network HBO to promote the launch of season three of its "True Blood" vampire series that airs June 13.

The centerfold is also accompanied by a 3D "True Blood" ad, complimentary 3D glasses and a series-themed data sheet with vampire-inspired stats and facts.

"I wanted to create a 3D pictorial for the very first issue of Playboy, but didn't have enough money to include the 3D glasses," Playboy founder Hugh Hefner said. "I'm happy to see the idea come to fruition with the help of one of my favorite TV shows, 'True Blood,' and I think Playboy fans will enjoy seeing our Playmate of the Year's true form."

The three-page 3D image was shot using state-of-the-art, stereoscopic, high-resolution digital photography.

The centerfold can be seen in the June issue of Playboy and online at PlayboyDigital on May 14.
