“Because the average ratings are overwhelmingly positive, we feel Americans are becoming much more educated, and therefore, comfortable, in all aspects of sex,” said Katy Zvolerin, Adam & Eve director of public relations. “While the typical American [31 percent of the males and 30 percent of the females] admits to having their first sexual experience at age 17 or 18, the study shows that this rite of passage can also be a healthy one.”
Nearly 70 percent of respondents rated their first sexual experience as ranging from “alright” to “amazing,” according Adam & Eve’s study.
However, the majority of the percentage rated the experience as “alright” (28 percent), another 31 percent rated it as better than alright and 7 percent rated losing their virginity “amazing.” Of the 82 respondents that described their first time as “amazing,” 90 percent were male.
“The survey revealed that only 30 percent of respondents selected the answer options zero through five, meaning that around one-third of respondents had a less than ideal first sexual experience,” the company said.
The web-based survey was conducted by Cvent and sponsored by Adam & Eve.
